Australian Export Awards honour country’s top traders

Innovative Australian exporters have been recognised at the 55th Australian Export Awards ceremony.
Awards ceremony was staged in Canberra last night and was co-presented by Austrade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce.
Australian regional exporters that have excelled in building international trade relations and growth were recognised at the 55th Australian Export Awards ceremony last night.
Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Luke Hartsuyker, said the ceremony, sponsored by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, highlighted the achievements of Australian exporters and the companies that support them.
“I was delighted to be involved in the 55th Australian Export Awards and was impressed by the calibre and determination of the award finalists,” Minister Hartsuyker said.
“The Australian Export Awards honour innovative business operators who are going above and beyond to promote our high-quality produce and products to overseas buyers.
“Australia’s regional exporters play an important role in supporting the success of our agricultural, fisheries and forestry exports, which were valued at over $50 billion in 2016–17.
“It takes hard work and grit to build sustainable international trade links, and each of the finalists and winners has demonstrated extraordinary talent to succeed in a highly competitive global market.
“I was thrilled to present this year’s Regional Exporter Award to Premium Fresh Tasmania which has grown from a small farming enterprise to one of the largest growing, washing, grading and packing operations in the country.
“Premium Fresh Tasmania has taken advantage of Australia’s counter-seasonality to export fresh produce to Europe, the Middle East and Asia—increasing export sales and delivering real benefits to the company and the region.
“I would also like to extend my congratulations to all of this years’ finalists and winners. With so many companies showing growth and promise across the country, the judging panel certainly had a task in selecting this year’s award recipients.”

The Australian Export Awards is a national initiative recognising Australian businesses for their export achievements.
State and territory winners progress as national finalists, with one category winner to be crowned the Australian Exporter of the Year.
This year there were eight finalists contesting the Regional Exporter Award.
The Regional Exporter Award recognises outstanding international success by a business where its head office is based in a non-metropolitan area and is sponsored by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.
According to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), Australia’s agricultural, fisheries and forestry exports exceeded $50 billion in 2016–17.
