Team Australia will compete in athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing, swimming and tennis, supported by 35 volunteer officials.

The Games will feature a total of 7000 athletes with an intellectual disability from 170 nations competing across 24 sports in front of half a million spectators.

The Special Olympics is a global movement that focuses on the importance of social inclusion and the need for more support for people living with disability.

Special Olympics Australia has been operating for more than 40 years, promoting positive community attitudes towards disability, sport for all Australians and providing people with intellectual disability with opportunities to take part in a range of sports at various levels of competition all year round.

Labor wishes Team Australia’s athletes, coaches and volunteers the best of luck for the Special Olympics World Games 2019.
