BUDGET DELIVERS NOTHING FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY
ANDREW GILES MP
Last week’s federal budget has ignored students with disability in Australian schools.

It contained no new measures directed towards students with disability, and no additional funding.

This comes on top of the Liberals’ $14 billion cuts to public schools, which educate the vast majority of students with disabilityThe Liberals also shamefully propped up their budget with a $1.6 billion underspend in the National Disbaility Insurance Scheme. This underspend has meant that many participants, including students with disability, are not receiving the support they need.

Only Labor has been listening to advocates, parents, teachers, principals, academic experts and - most importantly - students themselves.

Only Labor has a plan to ensure that every student counts in our schools.

While the Liberals ignore the needs of students with disability, we have committed an additional $300 million - as well as a suite of reforms to drive more inclusive education.

This funding will mean more individual learning experiences for students with disability, with more teachers, support and resources.

Schools have an important role to play to improve life outcomes, especially for young people with disability.

And people with disability should have every opportunity to fully participate in life.
