ONE HUNDRED DAMS PROMISE IS STILL A MIRAGE

Today in Question Time the Morrison Government was unable to name one dam they had built, despite the Liberal Nationals promise to build 100 dams when they were first elected in 2013.
The Shadow Minister for Environment and Water, Terri Butler, asked the Prime Minister:
“The Government came to office promising 100 dams, and for seven years now the last dams built were Labor projects.
What support is the Government giving the Brogo Dam and the Eurobodalla water storage supply projects?”
In a baffling and disjointed response, the Deputy Prime Minister waffled on for several minutes without answering the question.
The Liberals and Nationals can’t point to any dams, let alone 100, because the last dams built in Australia were Labor projects.
The Morrison Government also failed to explain why the people of Eden-Monaro have been left behind by this Government’s woeful record on water security, despite these communities being ravaged by the triple crises of drought, bushfires and COVID-19.
The Liberals and Nationals say one thing to farming families in regional communities and then do another thing in Canberra.
They promised an independent statutory authority to “take the politics out of water”, but in Senate Estimates in October it was revealed they had instead buried the new “authority” in the department, with no independence and no power.
Scott Morrison and Michael McCormack are loose with the truth with regional Australians and their water policy is a mirage.
