DIGITAL ANNOUNCEMENT - A CASH RE-HASH AND THREE YEARS LATE
JIM CHALMERS MP
Scott Morrison’s marketing-based approach to this jobs crisis in the middle of the worst recession in almost a century continues today with his three-year- late digitisation announcement.

Vulnerable Australians, businesses and communities need a proper plan to set the country up for the recovery, not a Prime Minister more interested in chasing headlines than chasing jobs.

More than half of the money headlining today’s announcement is backfilling an announcement from 2017 and a funding envelope revealed last year to create a Director Identification Number.

What confidence can Australians have that the Government will ever deliver a Director Identification Number properly when senior Liberal Ministers including Finance Minister Cormann and Home Affairs Minister Dutton have resisted these very reforms?

Every day these reforms are delayed is a $14.5 million free ride for dodgy directors ripping off small business creditors and employees.

The Morrison Government has a shocking record on digital and technological reform including Robodebt, the NBN backflip, COVIDSafe app, and the Census fail.

Labor will examine the details of this latest announcement and consult with stakeholders and industry.

After months of spin over substance, Australians deserve a plan from the Morrison Government to promote growth, protect and create jobs, support business and set us all up for the recovery.
