GOVERNMENT MUST ACT AS SUPPLY CHAINS COME UNDER FURTHER STRESS
CATHERINE KING MP
Labor is concerned by reports in newspapers today that a global shortage of a special anti-pollution ¬additive known as AdBlue for diesel vehicles could lead to thousands of heavy vehicles being forced off the roads within weeks.
This shortage will put even more stress on already under pressure supply chains.
Our truck drivers have continued on with their jobs throughout the pandemic despite facing difficulties at roadhouses, at borders and at testing facilities all the while being away from their families. The last thing they need now is the added worry about whether they are going to be able to work leading up to and after Christmas.
A global shortage of Adblue, made worse by the fact that Australia has limited domestic manufacturing capability to make or maintain the product here, could have a disastrous impact on the road transport industry.
The National Road Transport Association has predicted that this shortage could lead to up to half of all diesel trucks across the country being parked up by early next year.
Labor urgently calls on the Morrison-Joyce Government to treat this issue with the seriousness that it deserves.
