KEENAN PLAYING MUSICAL CHAIRS WITH DHS JOBS TO GLOSS OVER JOB CUTS
THE HON LINDA BURNEY. MP
Michael Keenan is playing musical chairs with Department of Human Services jobs to paper over the 1200 jobs Turnbull axed from DHS.
Keenan announced 100 staff will be moved from the Sydney CBD to Parramatta by the end of the year.
In the Budget last year, Turnbull announced 1200 jobs would be cut from the Department of Human Services.
Soon after, unanswered calls to Centrelink increased from 29 million to 55 million.
The average call wait time to Centrelink for older Australians has increased from 19 minutes to almost 26 minutes.
Centrelink is in crisis under Turnbull and Keenan.
Turnbull and Keenan are simply trying to make it so difficult for Australians to claim income support in the hope they just give up.
Keenan’s game of musical chairs with DHS jobs glosses over the fact that Centrelink is understaffed and under-resourced.
Centrelink needs permanent full time staff - not contractors or Labor hire, who are familiar and skilled to deal with the often complex circumstances needed to support Australians who are in need of income support.
