2018 ANZAC DAY MAILOUT
Darren Chester MP
THOUSANDS of schools, libraries, ex-service and other organisations will receive a package of educational resources in the Anzac Day mailout commencing from this week said Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester.
“The Anzac Day mailout is a significant annual exercise designed to ensure new generations of Australians understand our country’s role wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations and the sacrifice so many Australians made in defence of our nation,” Mr Chester said.
“This year the Anzac Day mailout contains posters commemorating thefinal campaigns of the First World War on the Western Front and detailed publications and multi-media resources for school children of all ages.
“2018 represents the final year of the Anzac Centenary period and will culminate in national celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice — the end of the Great War.”
Mr Chester said there were many resources in the mail out including the seventh book in the Century of Service series, Curiosity: Stories of those who report during wartime, which tells the story of journalists, artists and photographers who recorded the war and the risks and challenges they faced in witnessing war.
“For lower to middle primary students, a seven-minute animated film has been developed called Here they Come: A day to remember which explores the different perspectives of Anzac Day and the significance of commemorating the service of veterans,” Mr Chester said.
“Secondary students will have the opportunity to learn more about the impact of war on those who served and those who welcomed them home, including the roles of the Repatriation Commission and the Soldier Settlement Scheme.”
The mailout also includes a flyer promoting an important new online teaching resource, Coming home: An Investigation of the Armistice and Repatriation, which incorporates individual soldiers’ case studies and looks at how returned service men and women reintegrated into the Australian community.
The mailout also promotes the 2018 Anzac Day Schools Awards which closes on 25 May 2018.
Digital copies of the contents of the mailout can be accessed via The Anzac Portal.
