GOVERNMENT DUPLICITY ON LIVE SHEEP EXPORTS

The Turnbull Government’s tough talk on live sheep exporters involved in animal cruelty is not matched by its actions.
The Turnbull Government is refusing to provide Western Australian Government officials with information needed to investigate breaches under Western Australian law. Indeed, Western Australian officials have been told to pursue the information under Freedom of Information laws.
The Commonwealth Parliament is being asked to increase penalties - which are rarely imposed - for exporters who do the wrong thing while at the same time Malcolm Turnbull is protecting them. The duplicity of the Turnbull Government is writ large.
It’s another reason we need an independent Inspector General for Animal Welfare and Live Animal Exports.
