AUSTRALIA’S SUPPORT FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DIALOGUE
SENATOR THE HON MARISE PAYNE
Australia was pleased to take part in the second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom hosted by the United States in Washington DC from 16-18 July.

The forum brought together governments, international organisations, religious groups and other civil society representatives to discuss opportunities to promote and protect freedom of religion or belief internationally.

The Australian Government is a committed advocate for freedom of religion or belief for all individuals worldwide. It is a fundamental human right, and we firmly believe that its protection contributes to stable, cohesive societies.

Australia seeks out every possible avenue to advocate for those experiencing religious intolerance or abuse.

We advocate on this issue directly with states, in bilateral, multilateral and regional settings, through our development program, and in partnership with civil society.

The promotion and protection of human rights underpins sustainable peace and prosperity for individuals, communities and societies as a whole.

Australia looks forward to continuing to work with our international partners to advance human rights globally, including the right to freedom of religion or belief.
