SECOND NATIONAL DISABILITY PROGRESS REPORT DELAYED AGAIN
SENATOR CAROL BROWN
The terrible record of the Turnbull Government on the National Disability Strategy has continued with confirmation that the Second Progress Report, originally due in 2016, has been delayed again until next year.

When the National Disability Strategy was conceived Progress Reports were due every two years from 2014 onwards.

The Second Progress Report, due in 2016, will now not see the light of day before 2018.

This is an unacceptable delay, people with disability deserve better.

The first Progress Report was published a year late (2015) and the delays have continued.

The Senate Community Affairs Committee recently enquired into the implementation of the National Disability Strategy and recommended that all Governments recommit to the Strategy and to meeting both national and international reporting deadlines.

The Government has dropped the ball on the National Disability Strategy and needs to get serious because the Strategy is crucial to the success of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

People with disabilities have been let down again by Turnbull and the Conservatives.
