G’DAY USA
The Hon Julie Bishop MP
We will visit Los Angeles from January 26 – 29 to promote Australian ideas, products and talents to influential US audiences as part of G’Day USA.

Now in its landmark 15th year, G’Day USA is Australia’s premier public, cultural and economic diplomacy program in the United States.  Spanning public policy, foreign and defence cooperation, tourism, food and wine, the creative industries, sport and education, the annual, year-long campaign deepens our rich relationship with the US.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop will launch G’Day USA 2018 on Australia Day with a keynote address at the annual US-Australian Dialogue on Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, hosted by the RAND Corporation. This keynote address is part of a series following the launch of Australia’s Foreign Policy White Paper last November.

The United States is Australia’s largest investment partner, with bilateral investment worth almost $1.5 trillion. The United States is Australia’s second largest trading partner, worth $64 billion in 2016-17 and Australia’s top two-way trading partner in services.

Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister Steven Ciobo will deliver the keynote address at the annual Australian Tourism Summit and promote Australia as a high-quality tourist destination. The United States is Australia’s third largest market for visitation with over 710,000 visitors in the year ending September2017, spending A$3.75 billion in the Australian tourism sector.

We will promote Australia as a leading film production destination. The G’Day USA Australian Film Industry Showcase will feature a special advance-screening of the new Columbia Pictures live action/animated movie, Peter Rabbit, filmed in Sydney and featuring the work of leading Australian creative digital studio Animal Logic.

We will attend the annual G’Day USA Gala, featuring the best of Australian talent in music, television and film.  At this year’s Gala we will honour Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated Australian actor and producer Margot Robbie, Emmy award-winning Australian producer Bruna Papandrea, and the Grammy award-winning Australian musician, producer and songwriter John Farrar.  We will also honour the lifetime achievements of the late Oscar-winning Australian actor Heath Ledger.

G’Day USA partner Westfield is hosting a retail pop-up showcasing Australian brands during the month of January, as well as an Australia Day concert starring Australian performers Alli Simpson, Nat Conway and Isaiah Firebrace.
