WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE - SCIENCE MEETS PARLIAMENT
Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash
Our scientists, researchers and innovators are at the forefront of our changing economy – the relationship between scientists and lawmakers is critical to Australia’s future prosperity.
The 20th annual Science meets Parliament brings more than 200 scientists, technologists and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals to Parliament House in Canberra for professional development, forums and a series of private meetings with parliamentarians.
As a keynote speaker at the event’s gala dinner, Minister for Jobs and Innovation Michaelia Cash will highlight the Turnbull Government’s continued commitment to science and innovation, including joint efforts with the science community to boost the participation of girls and women in STEM education and careers.
During the event, she will meet with science sector leaders, outstanding scientists and researchers and science communicators.
“Science meets Parliament is a highlight of the parliamentary calendar. As the Cabinet Minister responsible for science I’m delighted to be part of this strong tradition of fostering understanding between parliamentarians, scientists and technologists,” Minister Cash said.
“Science and innovation create the jobs of the future – it’s imperative we work together to harness the power of science to support Australian industry, jobs and our continuing prosperity.
“We are also helping Australians maintain and increase skills necessary for the jobs of tomorrow, and ensure our young women are inspired to aim high in STEM careers.”
Assistant Minister for Science, Jobs and Innovation, Zed Seselja said the Turnbull Government is focused on ensuring our world-class discoveries and ideas can create business growth and more job opportunities for all Australians.
Assistant Minister Seselja will address the event at a conference on Wednesday to emphasise the importance of the work of our internationally renowned scientists and innovators in creating the jobs of the future.
“Science meets Parliament provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our shared ambitions and goals, celebrate our successes and set the pathway to a future where all Australians embrace and benefit from science and innovation.”
