TURNBULL MUST DIRECT THE REMOVAL OF USING MONASH’S NAME
BILL SHORTEN MP
The politicisation of Sir John Monash’s name by the Coalition’s pro-coal ginger group is now a test of Malcolm Turnbull’s authority as leader.
Last night Kevin Andrews dug his heels in and steadfastly refused to remove any reference to Sir John Monash from his new coal fantasy group.
This follows the Monash family’s clear statement calling on the ginger group to withdraw the use of their family name in their pursuit of giving their “anti-science and anti-intellectual argument an air of authority.”
RSL National President Robert Dick has also slammed the use of Sir John Monash’s name saying, “We believe that Monash’s name is sacrosanct and should be above this form of political posturing.”
As the former Minister for Defence, Kevin Andrews should know better than to politicise an Australian military hero.
This is a new level of disrespect and political posturing from a group that’s only intention is to bring down Malcolm Turnbull’s leadership.
Sir John Monash is one of Australia’s greatest military heroes and an innovator in energy policy, to use his name especially during the Anzac Centenary is disgraceful.
We know Malcolm Turnbull is too focused on trying to save his job but he must today immediately direct Tony Abbott and his band of followers to remove any reference to Sir John Monash from their own political agenda.
