Minister for Jobs and Innovation, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, today joined the Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, and the member for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson MP, at Luson Aged Care to hear more about their Launch into Work project.
Luson Health, an aged-care provider in Victoria, has committed to 10 participants for a six-week pre-employment project which guarantees employment for those who successfully complete the project.
Aimed at boosting participants’ skills and experience, the project will include mentoring and workplace experience, as well as training towards a Certificate III in Individual Support.
Minister Cash said the project will target women who have been unemployed for 12 months or more, mature-aged workers and parents returning to the workforce.
“The Luson Health project will provide a great opportunity for people to develop the skills they need for a successful career in aged care,” Minister Cash said. She noted that at the successful completion of the project, participants will have guaranteed employment at Luson Health’s Eden Park Aged Care Facility and The View Aged Care Facility.
“The project will build on the success of previous Launch into Work pilot projects delivered by UnitingCare and Lendlease and demonstrate how the Government is successfully working with businesses to support job seekers into work.
The Launch into Work program trials projects that provide tailored training, work experience and mentoring to support people looking for work to increase their skills, experience and confidence for identified positions with employers.
The Australian Government committed $10 million to the program until 2019-20 as part of its ongoing commitment to helping job seekers find suitable employment.
The Treasurer congratulated Luson Health for their commitment to providing these opportunities for individuals looking for suitable, meaningful work.
“The Launch into Work program will provide a pathway to employment for the participants of this project, by allowing them to move straight into a job with Luson Health”, the Treasurer said.
Sarah Henderson commended the opportunities the programme is providing for local job growth and said “the turnaround in the local economy under the Turnbull Government is clear - programmes and projects like this will mean more people into work in the Geelong region”.
The project will commence on 22 May 2018 and conclude on 29 June 2018.
