National Redress Scheme July update
THE HON DAN TEHAN MP
The National Redress Scheme received more than 500 applications in July, its first month of operation.
Minister for Social Services Dan Tehan said the National Redress Scheme would provide people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse with access to counselling, a redress payment and an acknowledgement from the institution.
“It takes incredible courage and resilience for survivors to take that first step and make an application for redress,” Mr Tehan said.
“The National Redress Scheme started on 1 July and will run for 10 years so people have time to understand the scheme and process before starting an application.
“Redress Support Services are available to help people understand the scheme and complete an application. Free legal and financial support is also available.”
