Labor just added $500 million to the tax bill
THE HON DAN TEHAN MP
Labor yesterday confirmed they are out of step with the rest of Australia and it’s going to cost the taxpayer an additional $500 million.
Australians expect a Government that helps people who need it, and respects those who pay for it. Labor doesn’t believe this and they proved it yesterday.
Labor Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Development Amanda Rishworth told ABC South Queensland yesterday that Labor would abolish the activity test for the Child Care Subsidy.
That’s another $500 million you can add to Labor’s tax bill over the forward estimates.
The Government’s landmark child care reforms mean families working the longest hours get the greatest levels of support, and to be eligible for the subsidies a parent has to spend just four hours a week looking for work, volunteering or studying.
Labor want to abandon mutual obligation because they don’t care what happens to the taxpayer’s dollar.
Labor need to answer whether they will axe all mutual obligation programs, like Work for the Dole, HECS-HELP and the Cashless Debit Card.
ABC: So you will be taking into consideration where the child care rebate and subsidy for working parents whose kids attend preschool five days a week that is something you will be looking at as well?
RISHWORTH: We will be working with the states and territories and part of that is abolishing the activity test for 18 hours a week which was an issue for parents that didn’t meet the activity test would get necessarily – the subsidy. So we will be abolishing that to ensure that children can access 18 hours. That is on the subsidy side but we will also have money on the table with the states and territories to deliver access in multiple settings including child care centres.
