The only certainly under Labor is taxes are going up
THE HON DAN TEHAN MP
Taxes will increase under Labor to pay for their rehashed education ‘announcement’ but more than a year after detailing their extra spending they’re still light on detail about how they will improve school results for kids.
Our Government is providing a record $309.6 billion investment in recurrent funding to all Australian schools from 2018 to 2029, including $88.9 billion over the next four years.
Government spending is growing fastest for state schools, at around 6.3 percent per student each year from 2019 to 2023, compared to per student growth of 5.2 percent for the non-government sector.
That’s real money that doesn’t require the Australian tax payer to dig deeper into their pocket.
Our Government has delivered record school funding, and it is guaranteed. We also have an actual plan that delivers better outcomes for our kids.
Sadly, it is a fact that despite record increases in school funding our NAPLAN results are stagnating and results are slipping when compared to other countries.
Australian parents want to see results for the additional money already being invested.
This Government’s National School Reform Agreement has in-principle support from states and territories and school sectors to progress to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).
These reforms were written by David Gonski and a panel of education experts and will establish a genuine roadmap to improve how we educate our kids, with more support for teachers and a focus on students learning the core basics of literacy and numeracy.
Meanwhile, all Labor can say is they will work with the state and territories. The last time Federal Labor did this, schools funding was a mess with 27 different deals.
Only our government has a plan for guaranteed schools funding that is distributed fairly and according to need.
