Tasmania commits to national reforms for schools

The Morrison Government has ensured better outcomes for Tasmanian school students by delivering a record $6.5 billion in funding to all Tasmanian schools from 2018 to 2029 and reforms to the education system. 

The Federal Government and the Tasmanian Government today signed the National School Reform Agreement, enabling the Morrison Government to provide record funding to Government and non-Government schools in the state. 

As part of the agreement, the Tasmanian Government has committed to improving student outcomes by implementing the Gonski 2.0 school reforms. 

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Morrison Government was providing record funding for state schools, for Catholic schools and for Independent schools, paid for by our plan for a stronger economy. 

“Our Government is delivering real, needs-based funding and our Government is delivering real reforms to improve student outcomes,” Mr Tehan said. 

“This agreement confirms that school reform must focus on driving individual student achievement and equipping teachers with the right tools and support. 

“Our Government believes that what a student achieves is as important as how much money you spend. 

“And with over 1.1 million jobs created over the past five years and continued strong economic growth, the Morrison Government can afford to pay for these essential education services that all Australians rely on. 

“I continue to negotiate bilateral agreements with the other states and territories in good faith and hope to finalise them all soon.” 

South Australia, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Northern Territory have already signed up to the National School Reform Agreement.
