LABOR TO SUPPORT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL TELETHON
TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
A Shorten Labor Government will donate $2 million to support the terrific work of the Queensland Children’s Hospital via the Channel Nine Telethon.

Now in its sixth year, the telethon has already raised $58 million for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Last year it raised more than $12 million for sick kids and their families. That’s more money for life-saving medical research, and for the incredible array of patient and family support programs that the Foundation and the Hospital provides.

The next telethon won’t take place until after the federal election, but Labor is getting in early to pledge our support.

We will work with the Foundation to allocate the funding, which will come from Labor’s $2.8 billion Better Hospitals Fund.

The Queensland Children’s Hospital is the only tertiary referral hospital for kids in Queensland – caring for the most critically injured and sick kids across the state.

The hospital houses Australia’s busiest Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, providing life-saving care to more than 1,900 kids every year.

Approximately 40 per cent of inpatient admissions are kids from regional and rural Queensland. These patients are often the sickest kids, often staying for long periods or undergoing regular visits due to the severity of their illness or disease.

We want to ensure that all Australians have access to the health care they need, including our most vulnerable – and that our children get the best possible start in life.
