LIBERALS MUST RULE OUT MORE CUTS TO SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS

The Liberals need to come clean on what essential services will be cut to achieve $40 billion a year in secret cuts, so Scott Morrison can give handouts to the top end of town.

Today Labor State Treasurers have written to the Treasurer demanding details of where the $40 billion a year (by 2030) in cuts will come from.

A $40 billion reduction in government spending is equivalent to:
  • Cutting all federal funding for schools and hospitals in Australia for an entire year or
  • Cutting all childcare rebates for five years or
  • Cutting all funding for aged care for two years or
  • Cutting all funding for the NDIS for more than two years.
In fact, a $40 billion reduction in government spending is equivalent to cutting $4,800 from every household in Australia.

We know the Liberals’ track record on schools and hospitals.

Tony Abbott promised ‘no cuts to education, no cuts to health’ prior to the 2013 election before unilaterally cutting $80 billion to schools and hospitals in the 2014 Budget, cuts that states and territories found out about on Budget night.

It’s also been revealed by the Grattan Institute that the Liberals need to cut government spending by $40 billion a year by 2030 to pay for their tax handouts for the top end of town.

The Grattan Institute added that, “achieving such a reduction would require significant cuts in spending growth across almost every major spending area.”

These revelations prove this election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better hospitals and better schools versus bigger tax loopholes for the top end of town under the Liberals.

What cuts are being hidden from the Australian people to pay for tax handouts to the top end of town?
