LABOR TO BRING MATERNITY WARD BACK TO YASS HOSPITAL

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $4.7 million to return maternity services to Yass Hospital.
This election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government which will build the hospitals people in our community need, or more of the Liberals’ hospital cuts and chaos.
Yass is expected to grow to almost 30,000 people by 2036. Improved medical services will be integral for the future of the town.
Expecting mothers from Yass and surrounding areas are currently forced to travel up to an hour to give birth either in Goulburn or Canberra.
This investment will mean that mothers can give birth closer to home.
The new maternity ward will include a fully fitted-out birth room and a postnatal room for overnight stays.
The Yass community has long advocated for this project, and Mike Kelly and Labor will deliver it.
This investment is a part of a Shorten Labor’s Government plan to invest $1 billion in vital upgrades to Australia’s public hospitals: building new wards with more beds, upgrading emergency departments and theatres, and establishing new palliative care and mental health facilities – and investing in projects like this one at Yass Hospital.
This investment blitz – one element of Labor’s $2.8 billion Better Hospitals Fund – is a key part of Labor’s Fair Go Action Plan to improve health care and strengthen Medicare.
We can afford to spend more on health care because we’ve made the tough decisions to make multinationals pay their fair share and close unfair tax loopholes.
A Shorten Labor Government will always invest more on health and hospital services than the Liberals, who have inflicted cut after cut after cut on our health system.
Labor knows there’s nothing more important than your family’s health. That’s why we will always fight for better health care, and why only Mike Kelly and Labor can be trusted to fix Australia’s hospitals and deliver a new $4.2 million maternity ward at Yass Hospital.
