INACTION ON THE BANKING ROYAL COMMISSION
JIM CHALMERS MP
This afternoon in Question Time the Treasurer confirmed that six months after receiving the Banking Royal Commission’s final report, the Government has not implemented 72 of the 76 recommendations.

The Treasurer provided no pathway or plan to deliver on the remaining recommendations but strangely referred to a list of actions that ‘goes on and on’.

The Government must immediately bring forward their legislation to address the Commission’s recommendations.

While Labor and ASIC have continued to raise concerns about banking misconduct, the Government has deserted the field.

The Government pretended to care about the recommendations of the Banking Royal Commission to get themselves through an election but so far have not passed the necessary legislation.

Labor led the way on calling for the Royal Commission while Scott Morrison resisted it for two years and voted against it 26 times.

It is clear that the only list that ‘goes on and on’ is the list of banking victims who have yet to see the action this Government promised them months ago.
