DODGY DUTTON GETS READY TO PRIVATISE AUSTRALIA’S VISA SYSTEM

Reports today in The Australian newspaper show that Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton, is getting ready to privatise Australia’s visa system by selling it off to someone who has donated thousands of dollars to the Liberal Party.
Under the Morrison Government’s plan, a private company will be awarded a contract to run Australia’s visa system as a for-profit business. Make no mistake this is a sell-off of our visa system.
Liberal Party heavyweight Scott Briggs – whose company Pacific Blue Capital is one of the leading bidders for the contract – donated $53,500 to the Liberal National Party of Queensland and the NSW Liberal Party in 2017-18, and has close personal ties to Scott Morrison and Immigration Minister David Coleman – who have recused themselves from this process.
But this still doesn’t pass the pub test.
Mr Briggs advised Mr Morrison in the lead-up to the coup that deposed Malcolm Turnbull last year and also heads Mr Morrison’s federal electorate conference.
Australians don’t want to see our visa system sold off.
The truth is Peter Dutton’s plan to privatise our visa system could lead to the loss of around 2,000 jobs Australia-wide.
It could also lead to increased visa fraud, data security risks and worker exploitation.
Labor strongly opposes the Liberals’ privatisation of Australia’s visa processing system.
Last year the Department of Home Affairs outsourced 250 departmental call centre jobs to the New Zealand company Datacom, while the Department of Human Services outsourced 250 Centrelink jobs to Serco.
Why are the Liberals obsessed with privatising Australia’s public service?
The Liberals must stop their plan to privatise Australia’s visa system, immediately.
