HONOURING WOMEN UNITED BY DEFENCE SERVICE
SHAYNE NEUMANN MP
Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Shayne Neumann has congratulated the organisers of the second Honouring Women United by Defence Service National Dinner held in Canberra last night.

Following the success of the inaugural event last year, this year’s event acknowledged all women who have given their all for their country for over a century, and also celebrated 2019 as the Year of Peace.

It brought together women connected to Defence by their own service or the service of a loved one, as well as the many organisations that work to support veterans and veterans’ families.

Mr Neumann said women were the great unsung heroes of our Defence Force.

“Women have made an invaluable contribution to Australia’s wartime history and the defence of the nation,” he said.

“They have served, and continue to serve, with distinction, courage and selfless dedication and do us all proud.

“I was delighted to represent Federal Labor at the 2019 Honouring Women United by Defence Service event and meet inspiring women like war widow Brenda Morrison, whose husband served in World War Two.

“I want to congratulate Rhondda Vanzella OAM, the Chair of Honouring Women and President of the War Widows' Guild of Australia NSW, and sincerely thank all the organisations involved with putting this event together.

“It reminds everyone that beside every person who has served, is a partner and family who are also impacted by their loved one’s service,” Mr Neumann said.
