CYNICAL BACKFLIP BY SPORTS MINISTER

Sports Minister Senator Richard Colbeck has displayed breath-taking hypocrisy regarding Tasmania’s quest for an AFL Team.
To claim yesterday that north-south rivalry is “an excuse” used by others to deny Tasmania a team is outrageous.
Senator Colbeck has been the architect of rivalry, parochialism and division on this issue:
“During the election campaign, the Liberals ran a divisive ad campaign in Tasmania … saying it would be a team for Hobart.”

To now say others fanned parochialism – to now announce his support for a team without actually putting anything on the table – is hypocrisy of the highest order. It is a complete backflip.
Labor stands by its support for Tasmania to be granted licences to compete in both the AFL and AFLW national competitions in the future.
Senator Colbeck likes to chase headlines, but when it comes to actually delivering for Tasmania his record is once again left wanting.
