NO MORE DROUGHT THOUGHT-BUBBLES PLEASE PRIME MINISTER
JOEL FITZGIBBON MP
Today the Prime Minister has dropped another drought response thought-bubble.

This week we’ve had drought policy by media drop: first the National Party backbench and today, by no less than the Prime Minister of Australia. The thought-bubbles and media drops have to stop and serious policy development has to start.

We don’t have any detail on Scott Morrison’s tax relief thought-bubble today and apparently we won’t have any detail until next year.

But drought-affected farmers and rural communities will be shaking their heads today and asking, “what good is tax relief if I’m not paying any tax because I’m not making any money?”

Scott Morrison must:
  1. Dispense with the spin
  2. Immediately release the report of the Coordinator General for Drought, and
  3. Convene an all-party meeting to deal with a rising drought emergency

The time for tours and spin is over. The time for action is now.
