VISIT TO CYPRUS AND MIDDLE EAST

This week I am visiting Cyprus, Israel and Bahrain.
In Cyprus I will visit the United Nations Protected Area and will receive briefings by Australian Defence personnel involved in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force.
Australia has a proud history of participating in peacekeeping operations and Cyprus counts as one of the early UN missions we joined back in 1964.
While the nature of our presence has changed over the years, our continued involvement demonstrates Australia’s commitment to doing our part as a good global citizen.
I will then travel to Israel to participate in the International Institute for Strategic Leadership Dialogue alongside senior officials and businesspeople.
This will be an opportunity to discuss Australia’s engagement with Israel.
Following this, I will travel to Bahrain to visit the headquarters of the international maritime security mission.
During this visit I will be briefed on the joint operations announced earlier this year to provide security assistance in the Straits of Hormuz.
