STANDING UP TO RACISM DEMANDS STRATEGY AND NEW NATIONAL CAMPAIGN

Labor welcomes today’s statement condemning racism by the Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, Alan Tudge.
There is no place for racism in Australia.
We must stand by our multicultural communities, and we must do everything we can to support them during this crisis.
Everyone in Australia, regardless of their ethnicity or cultural background, deserves respect.
The responsibility to rid society of racism belongs to government, not just individuals. That is why Labor is calling for:

The responsibility to rid society of racism belongs to government, not just individuals. That is why Labor is calling for:
- A comprehensive anti-racism strategy that tackles racism head on.
- A new national anti-racism campaign - to send a message of zero tolerance to racism in Australia
A national anti-racism campaign would tackle existing problems of racism and be a positive action we can take to promote community cohesion.
The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Council Australia (FECCA) and other key multicultural groups are also calling on the Morrison Government to implement a national anti-racism campaign, just as the Canadian Government has done by investing $45 million in a similar campaign.
The Morrison Government must join Labor and commit to a national anti-racism campaign, just like the Racism It Stops With Me campaign, established by the Gillard Government.
Labor understands that the vast majority of Australians are doing the right thing and pulling together during this crisis, but more needs to be done.
