GOVERNMENT DESERTS DAIRY FARMERS AGAIN
JOEL FITZGIBBON MP
Liberal and National Party MPs representing regional electorates today refused to support our struggling dairy farmers.

The Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter, seeking to assist in the plight of our dairy farmers, addressed the House of Representatives and put a motion that called for a fair milk-price for our dairy farmers. Labor seconded and supported his motion.

It’s disappointing that Liberal and National Party MPs were not even prepared to vote in favour of the matter being debated.

Our dairy sector is in crisis. Caught in a cost -price squeeze, our dairy farmers continue to leave the land in droves.

Today’s motion contained several options for delivering a fair price to our farmers, including tasking the ACCC with developing a minimum farmgate milk price. The Morrison Government rejected it.

Labor believes there are structural problems in the Australian fresh milk market that must be addressed by Government.
