THE HON BARNABY JOYCE
Stuart Smith has been reappointed as Chief Executive Officer of the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) for five years from 25 September 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Barnaby Joyce, announced the appointment today.

“NOPSEMA has an important role in ensuring the Australian offshore petroleum industry continues to meet world’s best practice in safety and environmental management,” Minister Joyce said.

“Mr Smith has successfully guided NOPSEMA through a period of volatility for the oil and gas industry, leading a comprehensive program to improve stakeholder relations.”

NOPSEMA was established in 2012 as the national regulator for petroleum and greenhouse gas storage activities in Commonwealth waters, more than three nautical miles offshore. It independently regulates offshore safety, well integrity and environmental management
