NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR AVIATION WORKERS

Aviation workers across the country are today standing up to call on the Morrison Government to support their industry as they bear the brunt of coronavirus restrictions.
The airline industry was shut down almost overnight by the necessary restrictions brought in by the Commonwealth and state governments to stop the spread of COVID. But, in the months since, the Morrison Government has taken a hands-off approach when it comes to the industry.
Beyond supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs across the country, the aviation industry sustains economies from Cairns to Broome to Launceston, and all cross the country.
Our entire aviation sector will be critical in supporting the broader economy in the recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.
Despite this, the Morrison Government has denied JobKeeper support to workers at dnata and refused to support workers at Virgin Australia.
Without Virgin Australia flying to destinations around the country, or dnata workers providing crucial ground handling, charter handling, cargo, logistics, and catering services, our economy will not be able to get back in the air.
Labor’s priorities when it comes to Virgin Australia and our entire aviation industry have always been protecting workers and protecting routes.
Any flight routes that are cut or jobs lost at Virgin Australia or dnata will be the direct fault of the Morrison Government’s inaction.
The Morrison Government needs to come up with a plan to protect our aviation industry.
