AUSTRALIANS PAYING MORE FOR GAS UNDER SCOTT MORRISON’S GAS CRISIS
MARK BUTLER MP
Australian industry, manufacturers and households continue to pay the price for Scott Morrison’s gas crisis.

Australian businesses are still being charged two to three times of  historical gas prices.

The ACCC’s latest inquiry has found gas companies are still selling Australian gas overseas at lower prices than businesses here in Australia are being charged.

For seven years, the Liberal Government has dismally failed to ensure Australian users have access to affordable gas. This at the same time as Australia becoming the world’s largest gas exporter.

Yet we are meant to believe this same Morrison Government has a plan for a ‘gas-led recovery’ when they can’t even solve their years old gas affordability and supply crisis. This is just another example of Scott Morrison’s marketing spin trumping reality.

Labor has been calling for significant gas market reform for years, including pulling the trigger on export controls and a more efficient pipeline network. This Government has refused to stand up for Australian gas users at every turn.

After seven years and 19 energy policy attempts, this Government has no national energy policy.

Scott Morrison needs to accept Labor’s offer of bipartisanship and deliver a national energy policy that will resolve the gas crisis afflicting Australian manufacturers and save the 11,000 renewable energy jobs that UTS say will be lost in the next two years under this Government’s policy vacuum.
