Labor welcomes the decision of Virgin Australia’s creditors to approve Bain Capital’s purchase of the airline.
Virgin Australia fell went into voluntary administration after the Morrison Government refused to support the airline, and our thoughts are with the 3,000 workers who lost their jobs as a result.
Today’s vote is the result of an immense amount of work from the administrators, workers and unions. They have worked tirelessly to ensure Australia’s second airline has a future.
Despite today’s vote, there is a long way to go before the success of Virgin Australia and the broader aviation industry is assured.
Aviation will be essential to our recovery, but it cannot be taken for granted.
The Morrison Government failed to support workers at Virgin Australia, they failed to support workers at Dnata, they failed to support workers at airports and they are failed to support workers at Qantas.
Unless the Morrison Government urgently comes up with plan for aviation, we will see thousands more job losses.
