It has taken seven years for the Government to wake up to Australia’s fuel insecurity and all we have from Scott Morrison is another announcement with no explanation of how it will work.
Over the last seven years of this Government our local refining capacity in Australia has plummeted by 40 per cent – smashing Australia’s fuel security.
The number one question Scott Morrison needs to answer is – how much will his petrol tax cost Australian motorists?
There is nothing in Scott Morrison’s plan that is going to deliver long-term certainty to Australia’s refining industry and nothing to address the fact that Australia’s refiners have the worst fuel quality and efficiency standards in the OECD, costing Australians about $500 extra at the bowser every single year.
One way or another Australian motorists are going to pay for subsidies and industry storage mandates, Scott Morrison just won’t say by how much.
Scott Morrison needs to come clean and explain how much their plan will cost motorists at the bowser.
