MORRISON’S CYBER STRATEGY CAUGHT IN RECYCLING MACHINE

Today’s announcement is yet another example of Scott Morrison being the announcement Prime Minister. He’s there for the media drop, the photo op, the re-packaged media drop, and the re-announcement, but never there for the follow up.
It is nothing more than an attempt by the Morrison Government to hoodwink the Australian people into thinking it is delivering on cyber security.
In reality, 90 per cent of the funding announced today is recycled announcements.
Initiatives from the Cyber Security Strategy have been announced as new funding four times in just over a year.
The Cleaner Pipes initiative alone has been announced once a month for the last four months.
It was first announced in June. Then again in July as part of the 2020 Force Structure Plan. A third time in August as part of the 2020 Cyber Security Strategy. Today it’s part of the Digital Business Plan.
Scott Morrison’s approach to cyber security is clear: have no dedicated Minister for Cyber Security, repackage old initiatives as new spending, and hope no one notices you haven’t delivered.
