PROVIDE JOBSEEKER CERTAINTY FOR WORKERS AND BUSINESS
LINDA BURNEY MP
Labor is calling on the Government to provide Australians looking for work with certainty about what support will be available to them after March.

Australians looking for work are anguished by the uncertainty and cannot plan for their future.

Now is not the time to cut JobSeeker.

Australians receiving income support spend on local businesses and help to sustain local jobs.

Income support is economic support – and cutting economic support will hurt jobs.

There are still over 1.3 million Australians on unemployment support.

And there are simply not enough jobs for every Australian who is looking for one.

There are eight Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy.*

  • There are seven Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy in New South Wales.
  • There are nine Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy in Queensland.
  • There are eight Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy in Victoria.
  • There are seven Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy in Western Australia.
  • There are 12 Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy in South Australia.
  • There are 17 Australians on JobSeeker for every job vacancy in Tasmania.

The numbers speak for themselves.

Australians just want a good job, to contribute and to build a life for ourselves and our families.

Now is not the time for the Government to pat itself on the back and declare mission accomplished.

Now is not the time to throw Australians looking for work into hardship or to jeopardise local businesses and local jobs by cutting economic support.
