LAP DOGS OR GUARD DOGS? TIME FOR THE NATS TO FRONT UP
STEPHEN JONES MP
The Nationals like to yap, but is their bite as bad as their bark?

Today is the day for them to show whether they’re Scott Morrison’s lap dogs or the guard dogs they claim to be for Australian farming families.

The banks have burnt thousands of farmers with shonky loan deals, bad advice and dishonest dealings.

Now the Liberals want to let them off the hook by erasing Responsible Lending Obligations.

This is a direct repudiation of Recommendation 1.1 of the Banking Royal Commission.

It is a broken promise to the past and future victims of banking misconduct, including the thousands of farming families who lost everything.

The Nationals voted with the Liberals 26 times to stop the Royal Commission from going ahead.

Barnaby Joyce, Matt Canavan and George Christensen say they made a mistake not backing Labor’s call for the Banking Royal Commission from day one.

Now is their chance to make up for it.

Now is there chance to show farming families they’re on their side.

Now is there chance to show Scott Morrison they won’t be his lap dogs.

They should join with Labor to keep Scott Morrison honest on his promise to protect farming families from predatory banks.

They should back up words with actions about putting farming families first.

Or they should stop yapping and stay on Scott Morrison’s leash.
