SALUTING THEIR SERVICE GRANTS ANNOUNCED

HISTORICAL societies and local Returned and Services Leagues (RSLs) are among the successful recipients of the latest round of Saluting Their Service (STS) Grantsto deliver commemorative projects and activities across Australia.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said the wide range of projects to receive funding in this round demonstrated that commemoration remained at the forefront of the minds of the Australian community.

“More than $1.2 million has been provided in this round of STS grants to help local towns and cities remember their veteran community, both past and present, and their contribution in serving our country for over a century,” Mr Chester said.

“For example, this funding will see murals and artworks placed on the exterior walls of the Corryong Memorial, the establishment of a peace garden at the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall and the installation of various plaques at key local sites of commemoration.

“The large number of diverse projects highlights the continued desire by the community to commemorate all those who have served and continue to serve in our Defence Forces.

“I congratulate all those organisations who received funding as part of the latest round of STS grants and encourage organisations across the nation with projects seeking to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of our service personnel to consider applying for funding in future grant rounds.”

The STS grants program aims to preserve Australia’s wartime heritage; involve people around the nation in a wide range of projects and activities that highlight the service and sacrifice of our service personnel in wars, conflicts and peace operations; and promote appreciation and understanding of the experiences of service and the roles that those who served have played in shaping the nation.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs administers the STS grants, with $3.5 million provided over the last financial year. Applications for the next batch of STS grants are now being accepted. For more information, visit the STS page on the Grants Hub or the DVA website.
