ANOTHER 5 COMMUTER CARPARKS FALL VICTIM

The Morrison Government’s Commuter Carpark debacle has widened overnight, with another five promised carparks joining South Morang on the chopping block.

Coming just weeks before the release of a highly anticipated ANAO report, the latest development in this rolling fiasco of an infrastructure program means that commuters at Brighton Beach, Balaclava, Mitcham, Kananook and Seaford will now be left circling the block, searching for a place to park.

This is another broken promise from a Government that simply cannot be taken at their word. Just a week ago the Morrison Government’s Budget cut $3.3 billion from infrastructure spending over the next four years, now we are seeing a tangible example of their many failings.

The Morrison Government never had any intention to deliver these carparks. In the heat of an election campaign the Prime Minister went ahead and made these promises in a desperate attempt to win headlines and votes.

Once the election was over, so was his interest in delivering for these Melbourne communities.

You can’t park on a press release, but that doesn’t worry the Morrison Government. The press release is all they care about.

The Morrison Government owes each of these communities an apology and an explanation of how they will now work to bust congestion and improve public transport accessibility across Melbourne.

In government, an Albanese-led Labor team wouldn’t go around making empty promises.

We will do the hard work to scope and design projects before we commit to them, so Australians can have confidence that when we make an infrastructure promise, we will deliver it.
