Domestic tourism to bounce back in 2022

Domestic tourism is expected to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels next financial year, according to a new report released by Tourism Research Australia today.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan said that by sticking to the National Plan and Australians rolling up their sleeves and getting vaccinated, Australians can all look forward to 2022.

“We know there is massive pent-up demand from Australians who want to travel interstate, so we expect 2022 to be a bumper year for domestic tourism and this report shows this,” Mr Tehan said.

“Australians can put snap lockdowns and border closures in the rear-view mirror and look forward to the new year.

“Every Australian that books a trip, visits a tourist attraction or takes their family and friends on one of our many incredible experiences this summer is doing their bit to help Australia’s visitor economy.

“Domestic tourism is a vital component of the visitor economy, and today’s report shows the Morrison Government supported the sector through the pandemic, and now Government can get out of the way and let businesses thrive.”
